Email is one of the oldest and most effective digital marketing tools. It's also one of the most underutilized.
Email allows you to reach a large number of customers at a low cost while being able to customize your message in a way that resonates with your customers.
Email marketing is also measurable and a call to action oriented channel.
Whether we realise it or not, most of the time we would reply, forward or click through, sign up or even buy something from an email we receive.
So, read on to learn how to take advantage of email as a marketing channel.
What is email marketing?
Email marketing is a powerful marketing channel, a form of direct marketing as well as digital marketing, that uses email to promote your business’s products or services. It can help make your customers aware of your latest items or offers by integrating it into your marketing automation efforts.
Email marketing can also play a pivotal role in your marketing strategy with lead generation, brand awareness, building relationships or keeping customers engaged between purchases through different types of marketing emails.
Is email marketing really worth it?
With more digital marketing options than ever before, including social media marketing and Google Ads, does email still hold its value when it comes to actually generating revenue?
In short, yes.
Email marketing is very much worth the investment if you are trying to grow your ideas and create sustainable business. But don’t take my word for it.

Now that you’ve seen the email marketing statistics, what can email do for your business?
These email marketing statistics prove just how valuable email can be for your business. Whether you want to increase your number of customers or strengthen your relationship with existing customers, email marketing will give you the tools you need to do so.
Types of email marketing
Whether you are just starting with email marketing or you're already sending marketing emails every week, you know that emails are one of the best channels to sell.
But smart marketers are always looking for new ways they can build relationships and grow revenue.
Should you nurture your subscribers with weekly newsletters? Are dedicated sends (stand-alone emails with one offer) better at optimizing your sales and marketing funnel? What about email digests?
These are all valid questions marketers find themselves asking when selecting the right format to meets their email marketing goals.
There are a variety of email marketing strategies that businesses can use to achieve these objectives, and the most common types of email marketing are listed below:
- Announcement emails: Announcement emails are sent to announce changes or updates to customers, such as a new product launch or a sale.
- Newsletter emails: Newsletter emails contain a digest of information that may be of interest to customers, such as latest news, blog posts, or product updates.
- Promotional emails: Promotional emails contain special offers and discounts that businesses want customers to take advantage of.
- Educational emails: Educational emails provide valuable content that helps customers learn more about a topic, such as how to use a product or service.
- Survey emails: Survey emails collect customer feedback about a product or service in order to improve the customer experience.
What are the benefits of an Email Marketing Campaign?
The benefits of email marketing campaigns are huge. They drive your business’s revenue in many aspects:
Increase of conversion rate
In the business world, results are arguably all that matters. With this in mind, the main reason that most businesses invest in email marketing is the fantastic return on investment.
Email marketing outperforms other marketing channels, including social media, in terms of conversion rate.
By sending out targeted emails to potential customers, you can bring them one step closer to becoming paying customers. And, since email campaigns are relatively inexpensive to set up and maintain, they can be a great way to get a high return on investment.
In addition, email campaigns can be highly personalized, which can help to build trust and rapport with potential customers.
One of the most obvious advantages of email marketing is its lower cost compared to mainstream marketing channels.
There are no print or postage costs and no fees paid in exchange for exposure on a certain billboard, magazine or television channel. Email marketers might consider investing in specialist software to automate, track and evaluate their emails.
Deliver targeted messages
Most marketing professionals would happily pay to ensure they were only spending money targeting those who were interested in their brand.
Email marketers can go one step further though, by only sending emails to subscribers who meet certain criteria.
Email list segmentation works fantastically for brands who gain information about their subscribers. Studies have shown that marketers who use this tactic often boast improved engagement rates as a result.
Email marketing is great for taking advantage of impulse buying. There aren’t many other marketing platforms which allow customers to go from witnessing an offer to purchasing an item within two clicks of a button. With a tempting call to action and a link straight to the checkout, email newsletters can drive sales like no other channel.
Easy to measure
Another key benefit of email marketing is that it’s easy to see where you’re going wrong.
Most email marketing software will allow you to track open, click-through and conversion rates, making it simple to spot how a campaign can be improved. These changes can be made almost immediately too, whereas print or broadcast advertising requires quite a bit of effort to alter.
Due to the immediacy of email, a business can start seeing results within minutes of its emails being sent.
A 24-hour sale is a brilliant marketing ploy that can be utilised by email, as it creates a sense of urgency and convinces subscribers to take immediate action.
Businesses typically have to wait weeks until they see sales come in as a result of print or broadcast campaigns and, even then, how can they be sure what was responsible for the purchase?
How to Launch Your First Email Marketing Campaign and Get the Results You Want
Email isn't going anywhere. There are 3.7 billion global email users and that number is expected to grow to 4.1 billion by the end of the 2022. Wouldn't you like all of them to be your customers?
There are 3 main steps to kick off your first email marketing campaign:
Build your email list
Any successful email marketing campaign starts with a strong email list.
Without people to email, you'll never be able to make any money from your email campaigns.
That's why it's so important to build up your email list and get as many qualified leads as possible. The more people you have on your list, the more opportunities you'll have to promoting your business and making sales.
But how do you get people to sign up for your email list?
There are a few different ways:
Include a sign-up form on your website or blog
Send out an email to your current customers and ask them to forward it to their friends and family
Run a contest or giveaway and require an email address for entry
Advertise your email list on social media or through other channels.
By taking these steps, you can start building up your email list and making it into a powerful marketing tool.
Define your email campaign goals
Your email marketing campaign won't be successful if you don't define your goals.
What are you trying to achieve with your campaign? Are you trying to educate users about your product or niche? Are you promoting products or announcing a sale? Are you upselling customers? Or are you trying to increase engagement on your blog or social media?
Once you've defined your goals, you can start crafting your emails. Keep your goals in mind when writing your emails, and make sure each email is helping you to achieve those goals.
If you're not sure what your goals should be, take a look at what other businesses in your industry are doing with their email marketing efforts. Figure out what's working for them, and adapt it to your own business.
Whatever goal you choose, make sure it's concrete and specific. Otherwise, you'll never be able to measure the success of your campaign.
Choose an email marketing service provider
There are a number of reasons why you should choose an email marketing service provider over using Gmail or Outlook for your bulk email needs.
First, service providers offer a number of features and tools that make it easy to create and manage your email campaigns. This includes things like templates, list management tools, segmentation, and more.
Second, service providers have the infrastructure in place to ensure that your emails are delivered quickly and reliably. They also have processes in place to handle bounced emails and other deliverability issues.
Third, service providers can provide valuable insights into your email campaigns through reporting and analytics. This information can help you to improve your results over time.
Choose an email marketing service provider that meets your needs and budget, and you'll be able to run successful email campaigns that achieve your goals.
