Odoo Backups, if Security Fails

We know we need backups, but are you backing up your Odoo ERP regularly?

Murphy’s law suggests: “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong”, and it does at the worst moment possible!

There are a number of vulnerabilities that make a web-based software syste exploitable.  Thomas, our security engineer, advises to avoid getting destroyed or attacked.

Backups protect, not only against external attacks, but also internal failures:

When the system’s security is compromised

To proceed using the system safety it’s recommended to restore an old version of the Odoo ERP. Patch it as soon as possible so it doesn’t get jeopardized again.

Forgotten password

Going back to an older version can get you the password back.

Once you have a backup process, hopefully, automated, in place, focus on the recovery mechanisms as well,

Test the backups

  • When you do backups it’s not only important to have them, but also test them.

  • It’s advisable to test them at least once a year.

Update your system regularly

It’s recommended to perform a review of the systems and updates once a month.

Automation

An even better solution would be to set up baseline automated security-mechanisms.

When all the security measures are taken hackers find it difficult to enter the system. The only threat will be advanced automated coordinated dynamic attacks.

If the system is up to date it will be almost impossible, even for them, to find vulnerabilities and maliciously mess with your information.
